If you've recently moved to the Gulf Coast this has probably happened to you: you see a middle aged man wearing a normal looking button-up shirt, probably pastel in color, but when he turns around you see two large flaps on the backside. This trend has picked up in the last few years in our area, and it really goes to show how far ahead Fairhope is compared to our northern neighbors in regards to Feminism and Woman's Rights.
The shirts were originally constructed to give nursing mothers easy access to milk supplies without having to dig out blankets and invasive baby tents. Two slits on each side give direct access when used in conjunction with a nursing bra. Just simply pull your arms into the sleeves and turn the shirt around.
Men started to wear the shirts too soon after. To help promote breastfeeding locals started purchasing the shirts and using them for everyday activities such as fishing or tailgating. They've even become quite fashionable as well. Local young women will take a large version of the breastfeeding shirt and wear it as a sort of dress (can be substituted with the Fairhope Store t-shirt). Nobody really knows what they wear underneath whether its shorts or nothing at all, but I'm waiting for the trend to catch on with men. Not wearing pants would considerably cut down on my laundry time.
